Primary Care Job Openings May Increase with $300 Million Grant Program

Earlier this year, the Obama Administration offered America’s community health centers a chance to take advantage of $300 million in grants partially designed to increase the healthcare workforce. That grant window will be closing on July 1st. And we suspect that once it does, and the award letters are sent out, primary care job openings are likely to crop up all across the nation.

So which healthcare disciplines may see an influx of new job openings in the coming months? It will obviously vary. However, there is a good chance that primary care professionals will find an abundance of job openings in areas dealing with behavioral health, pharmaceuticals, dentistry and optometry. They were four of the fields specifically mentioned in the previous grant announcements. In addition, the paperwork also noted that funds may be used to hire more primary medical care providers and expand primary medical care venue’s hours of operation. So in our minds, that could feasible stimulate hiring in additional areas like case management, nursing and electronic medical records management.

With that said, unemployed or underemployed primary care workers may want to consider dusting off their resumes now. That way, they’ll have a better chance at securing new primary care jobs as soon as they come available. Ideally, those resumes should include information about the person’s healthcare specialty and whether permanent or locum tenens work is desired. For those that are interested in dusting off that resume, speaking with a nationwide recruiting firm would be a wise move too. After all, it is the recruiting firms that well-respected healthcare employers often turn to first to fill their open, primary care jobs.
