America’s Future Depends on Filling Vital Physician Jobs Straightaway

Americans following the bad news about the Veterans Affairs Administration are slowly starting to learn that a lack of people qualified enough to fill physician jobs is partly to blame. The list of other contributing factors includes shortages of other primary care providers, like nurse practitioners and physician assistants. And sadly, the VA is not the only organization that’s been dealing with a doctor’s shortage either.

Media outlets and associations have been ringing the alarm bell about unfilled physician jobs for years. The Association of American Medical Colleges once predicted that our country would be short far more than 91,000 doctors by the year 2020. And based on their May 2014 meeting with Washington’s policymakers, it seems that the forecast hasn’t gotten much better.

Remember, unlike some other professions, the road to becoming qualified enough to fill physician jobs generally takes substantial financial support and a minimum of 7 years’ time. Couple that with the fact that there are literally more than 30 million people currently using America’s ever-changing healthcare system and even more individuals expected to join them in the years to come.

That said, we predict that physicians and other primary care workers are expected to be in high demand for at least the next two decades. So now is the time for the unemployed to consider enrolling in medical school or at least signing up for training courses in certified nursing assistance and other similar positions. Those types of certified training programs tend to be reasonably priced and take less time to complete. They’ll also give the person ample opportunity to determine if a career in healthcare is truly desirable and provide some support to overstressed docs, LPNs, RNs and PAs.
